Lakshadweep is an Indian island located off Kerala’s coast, comprising 36 atolls and coral reefs that offer a mind-blowing tourist experience. From water sports to coastal experiences, you can do it all in Lakshadweep and have a satisfying and calming vacation!

Best Time To Visit Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep’s resorts are generally open throughout the year. However, if you’re planning to take the ship ride, visiting Lakshwadeep during the monsoon season may be a bad idea. So, plan your visits between the months of October and mid-May, and avoid traveling in September.

How to reach Lakshadweep?

Before we move on to discuss all the fantastic things to do in Lakshadweep, let’s take a look at how you can reach the island.

When I planned my trip to Lakshadweep, I learned that we could reach the island by both sea and air. To reach the place, you can either take a flight or book a ship from Kochi, Kerala. It can take up to 20 hours by water from Kochi to Lakshadweep. Kochi is the only gateway to the island for tourism purposes.

So, whichever part of the country you are traveling from, only a layover in Kochi will take you to the magnificent Lakshadweep islands!

Sure, we would have learned about Lakshadweep back in school in our Geography classes. But it was only when I was planning my trip to the island did I actually study about it!

So, before we delve into the things to do in Lakshadweep, let’s quickly learn some more about the island! Also known as Laccadives, Lakshadweep is the smallest union territory of India, consisting of 36 islands, with Kavaratti being the capital. It is said that the Chola dynasty ruled this island back in the 11th century.

Today, Lakshadweep is a popular adventure and honeymoon destination, the visuals of which are often compared to that of Maldives. In fact, the island’s administrator, in 2021, had mentioned that the officials want to develop Lakshadweep like the Maldives and are looking to promote sustainable tourism in the islands.

My trip made me wonder why plenty of tourists flock to the Maldives when we have the wonderful Lakshadweep right here, well within reach, both travel-wise and budget-wise!
