The beaches in the city are a reason you certainly could travel here for. 1. Neelankarai beach

 

When you travel towards the south of Chennai, Neelankarai beach is located in a small town called Neelankarai. As the exact translation of Neelankarai “blue shore,” it is a beautiful untouched beach that has a view of one of the most breathtaking sunsets. Neelankarai beach is known for the turtles which arrive on this beach. The beauty of this beach and its oneness with nature will leave you and your family relaxed and calm. It is important to note this beach is getting exposure in recent times, so you will be better served to beat the crowd to absorb all it has to offer. 

2. Nettukuppam

Quiet and tranquility are what this beach stands for. Located in the northern tip of Chennai, this stunning beach is untouched and mind-blowing. This is the perfect place if you want quiet and want to rejuvenate your senses. Nettukuppam does not have hawkers, crowds or any of the food stalls or anything. The pier on the beach makes for a good walk into the ocean. You can sit there for hours and just absorb the world around you. At this beach the Ennore creek meets the sea, making it a site to savor. If you want to observe the city of Chennai from a distance and capture its beauty, this beach is perfect. A perfectly picturesque beach, it can be a photographer’s delight. Just remember if you want to go for a picnic here, ensure you carry your supply of food and water.       

3. Beaches of East Coast Road

East Coast Road, famously known as ECR by localities, is a road that connects Chennai and Mahabalipuram and further leads to Pondicherry. It is a road that goes along the Bay of Bengal and showcases a whole bunch of beautiful views and untouched beaches as you ride or drive down this well-maintained road. The east coast road runs past the coastline and has many unexplored and sparsely populated beaches. Taking the left into small lanes from ECR often leads you to beautiful unexplored and serene beaches. However, sometimes they may lead to private beaches so ensure you are not trespassing.  

4. Breezy Beach

Breezy beach as the name suggests is a beach that is breezy and ideal for people to hang out. It is a remote beach located in Valmiki Nagar. It is less known and therefore less populated. Its serene and beautiful look brings peace to the mind. The evenings are the best time to visit because the sea breeze sets in and lets the wind flow through your hair. It is one of the great tourist places in Chennai and is very photography-friendly. Since it is mostly untouched the food options available are limited. Therefore, if you are planning to stay there for a while, ensure you are stocked with food and water supplies.

5. Seaward Beach

Seaward Beach is a small, beautiful and mostly calm and untouched beach near 4th Seaward Road. It is comparatively close to the Thiruvanmiyur beach but does not have to deal with the weight of crowds as Thiruvanmiyur has to. Seaward beach is perfect for walks, absorbing the sights, taking in the sun, practicing photography, and more. This beach is typically visited, if at all, by locals. Though its beauty can encapsulate you, not enough people have come to know of it yet. This makes it the perfect beach for some quiet reflection and peace.
